Your location when you check in
When your position is read
- When you tap Check in and when you tap Check out.
- While you are checked in and the volunteer day's page is open and on screen, every 10 minutes.
- Never when the page is closed or hidden, never in the background, and never without your agreement. There is no app.
What we do with it
- Each position is compared with the venue's pin and then dropped. The latitude and longitude are not saved on our servers and not in your browser.
- We keep, for each check-in: whether you were inside or outside the venue radius, how far from the pin in metres, how accurate your phone said the position was, how many readings were inside, outside or unusable, and the time of the last reading inside.
What it is used for
- To verify your hours without waiting for a person when you were at the venue when you checked in and out.
- If you forget to check out, the last reading inside the venue is offered as the end of your hours. If you end your hours within 10 minutes of it they are verified by that rule; otherwise the nonprofit's team decides.
- A reading outside the venue radius, or one that is too vague, sends your hours to the nonprofit's team to verify.
Who sees it
- You see these results in your hours and in the data you download from your settings.
- The team of the nonprofit whose day it was sees them when it reviews your hours, never a position.
Your choice
- Before your first location check we show a screen and ask for your agreement. We keep the date and the version of the wording you agreed to.
- You can say no. You can still check in, and your hours then wait for the nonprofit's team to verify them.
- You can switch location off for this site in your browser at any time.
How long we keep it
Until you delete your account, as with the rest of your hours record. Deleting your account deletes it.
